Kelly's Review:
Grace's Guide: The Art of Pretending to Be a Grown-up is written by Youtube star Grace Helbig. Now if you don't know who Grace is, I suggest heading over to Youtube and looking up her It's Grace channel, watching a few videos, and then coming back here. Go on I'll wait...

Okay you're back I know it's probably been awhile, you fell into a black hole of hilarious Grace videos and then you couldn't remember what led you to her in the first place, but yay you eventually remembered. Good job! Now back to the review, this guide book is just that a wonderfully sarcastic, interactive, guidebook for millennial. Don't let the word sarcastic throw you off, this book actually has wonderful, useful advice in it, but it's hidden under that signature Grace Helbig comedy style we are accustomed to seeing in her videos.

Grace covers everything: surviving in your job, how to make friends in your adult life, advice for your love life, how to survive hangovers, traveling tips, and there are even a few recipes thrown in. Most that at first sound disgusting, but hey don't knock Macachos (Mac and Cheese Nachos) until you've tried them. She dishes out these tips in a humorous styles while finding a nice balance when opening up about her own personal experiences, such as her battle with anxiety, and her social awkwardness.

There are interactive portions to the book too, such as a Mad Libs walk of shame edition or a section to draw your ex with a certain male anatomy on their face, plus worksheets to practice what you've just learned.

I really enjoyed this book and find myself going back to read sections constantly when I need some advice or when I need a good laugh. I think the best way to describe this book would be by saying it is a Grace video that you can hold in your hand. If your wifi is down, you don't have to curse the internet gods, instead you can just pick up a copy to get your Grace fix and maybe get some helpful advice about what it's like to be a quasi-adult in this world.

Kelly's Rating:

My Review:
The audiobook for Grace's Guide: The Art to Pretending to Be a Grown-up was hilarious! It is narrated by Grace herself and it made those long morning commutes much more enjoyable. It was like getting to bring Grace along with me in the car and listening to her tell me stories.

The humor that I know so well from Grace's Youtube channel really comes across well in this book. Grace shares hilarious stories, advice, and some of her own personal experiences. I really found myself relating to many of the topics she brought up. She just balanced advice and humor really well. She may say it with sarcasm, but most of the advice is actually really useful.

Overall I loved Grace's Guide. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone in their late teens or in their twenties.

"In a world where vampires rule and teenaged humans are quarantined as a food source, there is only one choice—resist or die. But fighting the vampires comes at a terrible cost to twin sisters Mel and Lily and their best friend Carter . . . With Lily exposed to the vampire virus and lying in a coma, it’s up to Mel and Carter to search for the cure. Time is not on their side. With every passing heartbeat, Mel is becoming more and more purely vampire. Desperate, Carter and Mel decide to split up. Carter will recruit human rebels from the Farm in San Angelo to infiltrate the guarded kingdom of the vampire Sabrina and steal the cure. Mel will go back to her mentor, her friend, her betrayer, Sebastian, who is the only one who can access an underground vault that may house the secret to the cure. That is, if he’s still alive after she staked him to the ground. Now her worst enemy may be their best hope for curing Lily—and saving the human race." (Summary from

I really liked The Vault and I was so excited to jump back into this exciting and fascinating world after enjoying the first two books in this series so much.

Mel and Carter are on the hunt for the cure for Lily before she turns into a Tick. They will do anything to get to the cure. Mel will even go to Sebastian. These characters have all come a long way since the first book and they still continue to keep growing and developing. I am a huge fan of the way that McKay alternates the chapters between the characters because she has given each one such a distinct voice. I especially continued to find Lily to be the most interesting character though, but I think that Carter really stepped into a larger role this time around too.

I enjoyed how the search for the cure added this really interesting new aspect to the story. I also didn't find the plot to be predictable so there were some things that caught me by surprise. However, when compared to the other books in this series, I just felt that this one was paced slower. It took me a while to read and I just didn't feel like it held my attention the way the two previous books did. There was still a lot of action, but I felt like the story was dragging on, especially in the middle.

Overall though I really liked The Vault. I definitely recommend picking up this series if you are looking for a different type of vampire story.
