On the Fence
By: Kasie West
Released: July 1, 2014

"For sixteen-year-old Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, being raised by a single dad and three older brothers has its perks. She can out-run, out-score, and outwit every boy she knows--including her long-time neighbor, and honorary fourth brother, Braden. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn't know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a chi-chi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world of makeup, lacy skirts, and bedazzlers. Even stranger, she's spending time with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pick-up game. To cope with the stress of faking her way through this new reality, Charlie seeks late night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with Braden by the fence that separates them. But their Fence Chats can't solve Charlie's biggest problem: she's falling for Braden. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high" (Summary from

*A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review

"The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life-that's who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers...and she's just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can't get him out of her mind. Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look. But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they'll go to save each other" (Summary from

Katie McGarry has written another beautiful and realistic story that I just absolutely fell in love with. I loved Pushing the Limits and Dare You To, and now Crash Into You as well.

Crash Into You is the story of Isaiah and Rachel. Rachel is under pressure from her family to keep up appearances. The only time that she feels like herself is when she is driving her car. Then there is Isaiah who lives on the other side of town and desperately needs money. The two meet during a drag race, but find their lives are in jeopardy and have six weeks to find a way to get out.

I was so excited to finally read Isaiah's story and I just fell in love with him even more. I loved learning more about Isaiah and his past. Then I really enjoyed getting to meet Rachel. She was such an interesting character and I could connect with her immediately. She is a complicated situation at home and trying to make everyone else happy. I liked how she worked on cars and knew so much about them. I found myself learning more about cars from her than I knew before I read this book. Both Isaiah and Rachel were developed strongly throughout the book.

I also loved the way that a relationship developed between Rachel and Isaiah. They are so different, but at the same time they have much in common too. I especially loved how they shared a common love for cars. I loved the side characters too. I especially loved seeing Noah, Echo, Ryan, Beth, and Logan again. I also enjoyed getting to know a bit about Abby.

The plot was captivating and I stayed up to the early morning just to finish this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down until I found what would happen to Isaiah and Rachel. This story was exciting and sweet. It made my heart race and I admit to crying quite a bit.

Overall, I loved Crash Into You! I will definitely be rereading this book over and over again. I strongly recommend this book, as well as Pushing the Limits and Dare You To.

Blog Tour Review: The Lair by Emily McKay

The Lair
By: Emily McKay
Released: November 5, 2013
Source: Publisher
Purchase the Book: Amazon
*A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review

"In the battle against the vampiric Ticks, humanity was slowly but certainly headed for extinction. For months, twin sisters Lily and Mel had been "quarantined” with thousands of other young people being harvested for their blood—food for the Ticks. Finally escaping with a few friends, the twins are separated—and must continue the fight on their own . . . After making it to a resistance base camp in Utah, Lily learned to survive at all costs. But when a Tick attack decimates the fighters, Lily and her pregnant friend, McKenna, decide to make the hard trek north to Canada—and safety. Meanwhile, Mel is being taught how to survive by the very vampire that turned her. Living without her sister is hard, but dealing with the fact that her autism was cured by the vampire bite is an even bigger challenge. But when a monstrous betrayal places Lily in mortal danger, Mel must set out to find her, save her, and begin to unravel the empire of destruction that the Ticks have built" (Summary from

I really enjoyed The Lair. I've been looking forward to this sequel for so long because I loved The Farm, and The Lair was definitely a great follow up.

The Lair is told through Lily, Mel, and Carter's point of views again. I love how different all three of these characters are and how McKay continued to develop them in this book. The events of what they went through in The Farm are affecting them which makes these characters realistic. Mel is transitioning into a vampire and adjusting to being separated from her twin sister, Lily. Mel's point of view was my favorite to read in The Farm because her chapters were so beautifully written. They were different this time around though, but I still really enjoyed her chapters because she is going through this completely new experience. Then Lily and Carter have made it to the base camp. Lily is definitely my favorite character in this series because she is tough, but not perfect. I can understand her motives. I also liked how the relationship between Lily and Carter was developed more in this book. I was happy to see the return of McKenna as well. She is definitely a character that has taken me by surprise.

The plot was really exciting and I immediately got hooked back into this world right away. It was difficult to put this book down for long, especially once I reached the last half. There was a great mix of action, suspense, and twists. I wasn't entirely sure where McKay was going to take this story next after The Farm, and I was pleasantly surprised. One of the things that I loved so much about The Farm was the creepy world that McKay created and she expanded on it even more in this book. Some of my lingering questions were finally answered, but I also found myself with new ones.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Lair. It was an excellent sequel. I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment in this series. I definitely recommend picking up these books.

About Linda Foster
Linda Foster was born and raised in Colorado, where she still lives with her (very patient) husband and four (very spoiled) ferrets. Linda became an avid reading enthusiast the moment she picked up her first book, and has grown steadily worse. By the time she was 15 years old, her library had become too big for her shelves, and she was forced to donate all her books to the local school, just to make room for new ones. She started writing short novellas for her friends in middle school, and expanded into full-length novels several years later. Soul Bound is her first published novel. The Fire Dragon
By: Mary Fan

Almost a hundred years ago, the Enchanters defeated the Lord of the Underworld in one of the most fearsome wars the world had ever seen. The public thinks that this victory means the people are safe. But they’re wrong. The supernatural beasts the Lord unleashed remain on the earth, multiplying and ravaging what’s left of civilization. As long as these monsters exist, mankind will be in danger. And though the government, ruled by the magic-wielding Enchanters, seeks to protect their people, they are too few in number. They need the Defenders – a special class of non-magical humans – to fight the monsters. The Defenders are an elite force, and mankind’s only hope against the horrors that live beyond their gates. Fourteen-year-old Aurelia “the Firedragon” Sun has been training since she could walk to become a Defender, and her extraordinary combat skills have earned the attention of the powerful government. In fact, she’s been tapped to represent her nation in an international monster-fighting competition, which pits champions from across the globe against creatures of the Underworld in a violent spectacle. If she wins, she will become a full-fledged member of the Defender force. But as Aurelia moves deeper into the competition, she realizes that all is not as it appears. There’s something sinister behind the competition, something that could change the way she sees everything … and the Enchanters, it seems, are not the heroes she thought. Aurelia begins to ask questions. But before she can discover the truth, she is pitted against the most dangerous monster in the competition – one that will take her life if it can.

About Mary Fan
Mary Fan is a hopeless dreamer, whose mind insists on spinning tales of “what if.” As a music major in college, she told those stories through compositions. Now she tells them through books—a habit she began as soon as she could pick up a pencil. Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil follows a well-received debut novel, a space opera titled Artificial Absolutes (2013), and is the first in the Flynn Nightsider series. Mary would like to think that there are many other novels in her bag, and hopes to prove that to the world as well. Mary lives in New Jersey and has a B.A. from Princeton University. When she’s not scheming to create new worlds, she enjoys kickboxing, opera singing, and blogging about everything having to do with books.

 Broken Stone
By: PT McHugh

Reis Slayton is a man without a home, family, or direction until the US military comes along. But the moment he joins, his ‘talents’ come to the attention of those higher than him – he has a sharp eye, and a willingness to shoot first and ask questions later. His deadly skills are finely tuned … and used. But this isn’t what Reis wanted to be. Years later, after too many undercover operations, and countless lives taken, he finds himself questioning his direction. Does he believe in the government? Does he agree with his assignments? Or is he wasting his life – and conscience – on someone else’s goal? With that thought in mind, Reis takes a leap and interviews for a new company, where he’s given the role of body guard. Against his better judgment, he takes a job that no one else wants – guarding the daughter of a wealthy family – and grudgingly moves into a new life. Soon after taking a job, he realizes that he might have found the one thing he’s never had: a family, and someone to fight for. He grows to love his new charge, and begins to feel fulfilled for the first time in his life. But no matter how hard people try, they cannot escape the sins of their past. Will Reis be able to leave the life of an assassin behind him, and protect his new charge? Or will his history come back to haunt him, in the worst ways imaginable?

"When he opens his eyes, Willem doesn’t know where in the world he is—Prague or Dubrovnik or back in Amsterdam. All he knows is that he is once again alone, and that he needs to find a girl named Lulu. They shared one magical day in Paris, and something about that day—that girl—makes Willem wonder if they aren’t fated to be together. He travels all over the world, from Mexico to India, hoping to reconnect with her. But as months go by and Lulu remains elusive, Willem starts to question if the hand of fate is as strong as he’d thought. . . ." (Summary from

I loved Just One Year! Just One Day is one of my favorite books, so I have been anxiously counting down until the release of Just One Year and it definitely lived up to my expectations.

Just One Year is in Willem's point of view and follows his year after losing Lulu. In Just One Day, the reader really doesn't know much about Willem, so I loved getting the chance to learn all about him in this book. It was also great to read his side to the story about losing Lulu. Forman does an excellent job with developing him throughout the book. He has his own personal journey to go on through the course of the year. It was also great to meet some new characters.

The plot was captivating and held my attention from the beginning. I loved that I can now put together both Willem's and Allyson's stories. I especially loved getting to travel the world with Willem. I love a book that can bring me to new places and that is exactly what Forman did with this story. Forman's writing was gorgeous once again as well. I just love her writing style and the way that she tells a story. Just One Year broke my heart at some moments, but also made me smile at other moments. The only complaint that I have is that I want more of Willem and Allyson's story.

Overall, I loved Just One Year! I definitely recommend Just One Day and Just One Year to fans of contemporary stories.
