"After breaking up with her bad-news boyfriend, Reagan O’Neill is ready to leave her rebellious ways behind. . . and her best friend, country superstar Lilah Montgomery, is nursing a broken heart of her own. Fortunately, Lilah’s 24-city tour is about to kick off, offering a perfect opportunity for a girls-only summer of break-up ballads and healing hearts. But when Matt Finch joins the tour as its opening act, his boy-next-door charm proves difficult for Reagan to resist, despite her vow to live a drama-free existence. This summer, Reagan and Lilah will navigate the ups and downs of fame and friendship as they come to see that giving your heart to the right person is always a risk worth taking" (Summary from goodreads.com)

Wow Open Road Summer was just perfect! I don't use the word "perfect" lightly, but it's the only word that seems to come to mind when I think of this book. After being in a bit of a reading slump lately, this was just the type of book I needed to remind me why I love to read all over again. I've been hearing buzz about Open Road Summer for months now so as soon as the release day arrived, I ran out to pick up my own copy and I'm happy that I didn't wait a day more. It's been a long time since I've read a book that I've fallen in love with like I have with this story. I could read this book over and over again and still never get tired of it. It made me feel a wide range of emotions and I still can't stop thinking about.

Reagan has gotten into some trouble in the past but is looking to change her ways. So after a break-up, she decides to join her best friend Dee, who just so happens to be a big country singer, on her summer tour. Reagan was a really great protagonist and developed very strongly. She's made some mistakes and is trying hard to make better decisions. She was realistic and I could relate to her in so many ways. She doesn't have it all together and that just makes her that much more real.

Then there is her best friend, Dee. Dee is quite the opposite of Reagan and she always sees the good in others. Dee was developed really well throughout the story as she struggles with the price of fame. I especially loved the friendship between these two girls. It was one of my favorite aspects of this book. The bond these two share was real and it was clear from the beginning how much they care about each other. They always have each others backs no matter what and can always depend on each other to be there.

Then there is Matt Finch, who comes to join the tour as the opening act. Matt was another strongly developed character. I loved learning more about his past and I loved how he just fit right in with Dee and Reagan.

The plot was fun and I couldn't put this book down once I started. I loved traveling across the country with Reagan, Dee, and Matt. This book not only made me laugh, but it also brought on the tears, and gave me butterflies. Emery Lord's writing was beautiful and there were so many times that I had to stop and write down a quote. I also loved the lyrics that were a part of the story as well. I will certainly be looking forward to Lord's next book now.

Overall I absolutely loved Open Road Summer and it is now on my list of favorites! It's a beautiful story about friendship, love, and growing up. I can't recommend picking it up enough. It's the perfect book to add to your reading list this summer.
