Becca Fitzpatrick: Authors Are Rockstars Tour (Interview and Giveaway)

Authors Are Rockstars Tour: Becca Fitzpatrick
I'm so excited to be hosting Becca Fitzpatrick for the 2nd Annual Authors Are Rockstars Tour hosted by Rachel @ Fiktshun, Jaime @ Two Chicks on Books, and Mindy @ Magical Urban Fantasy Reads.

Becca Fitzpatrick is a rockstar because she is a wonderful writer who has brought to life memorable characters!
Hush, Hush was one of the first young adult books that I picked up that was about fallen angels and I quickly fell in love with the story. I have loved following along to this series for the past few years. Becca has kept me on the edge of my seat and the day that the last installment came out, I rushed to the bookstore first thing that morning to buy my copy of Finale. The series as a whole was exciting and unpredictable. She made me fiercely root for Nora and Patch and then wish that I could be Vee's best friend. Becca writes great characters that stand out, especially Patch. I met Becca at BEA last year and she was so sweet in person as well. (She also brought models who wore angel wings with her and that made for a very good morning at BEA ;) ). I'm already highly anticipating her next novel, Black Ice and preparing myself for the suspense that this story will sure deliver.

About Becca Fitzpatrick:
Becca Fitzpatrick's first book, Hush, Hush, debuted as a New York Times bestseller. She graduated college with a degree in health, which she promptly abandoned for storytelling. When not writing, she's most likely running, prowling sale racks for shoes, or fulfilling her mission to taste every flavor of ice cream under the sun. She lives in Colorado, the lone girl in a house filled with boys.  Website - Twitter
1.) Hi Becca, thank you for stopping by to answer some questions! First up, how would you describe your Hush, Hush series in three words?
Becca: "Twisty, sexy, suspenseful"
2.) Did you have a favorite character to write in the Hush, Hush series?
Becca: "Vee, hands down. She reminds me of two of my childhood best friends. I love her crazy, daredevil side - she's the perfect counterpart to Nora Grey, who's more straitlaced and reserved. A surprising fact: I would often spend hours pondering Nora's and Patch's lines, but Vee's lines always came easily to me. Despite her big personality, she was a very easy character to work with, ha!"
3.) How did you come up with the titles for all of the Hush, Hush books?
Becca: "I found the first two in the dictionary. For example, the definition of "hush" is to keep concealed. The definition of "crescendo" is to increase in intensity. I believe my editor came up with the final two titles - they were the hardest. We pondered many, many titles before we came up with ones we both liked."
4.) With Hush, Hush being optioned for a film, is there one scene in particular from the book that you would just love to see on the screen?
Becca: "Oh, good question! Maybe the scene where Patch and Nora see each other at Delphic Seaport Amusement Park, and Patch convinces Nora to ride The Archangel roller coaster with him. That scene as very creepy and fun to write. At that point in the book, we don't know Patch's true intentions, but  we definitely know there's something dark and mysterious about him."
5.) What is your writing process like? (Any favorite snacks, writing places, music, etc)
Becca: "I almost always write in my office. I prefer it quiet, "prefer" being the key word (I have two highly energetic boys with excellent voice projection). I always have a glass of water with me, and when I'm really stressed, a bag of Peanut M&M's will magically make its way onto my desk. Unlike many authors, I don't write with music playing in the background. Writing is very hard work for me, and demands all of my attention - I find it hard to concentrate with background noise."
6.) What is your top favorite book or books?
Becca: "Thank you for giving me the option to name more than one! I love OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon, SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson, THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB by Karen Joy Fowler, and LONESOME DOVE by Larry McMurtry."
7.) Can you share anything about your newest upcoming thriller story, Black Ice?
Becca: "BLACK ICE has been the hardest book I've written. I put everything into that book. I hope it's my best story yet, and I hope readers empathize with the characters as they try to uncover their motives. BLACK ICE is a psychological thriller, so the characters are complex and flawed, and there is a definite case of there's-something-strange-going-on. And for those who are wondering, yes there is a sexy, romantic hero . . . but he might not be who you think!"
Thank you so much Becca Fitzpatrick for taking the time to answer some questions!

  4. She's a rockstar because of her amazing writing, her great characters, and because she's SO nice. I was going to drive to Portland (OR) for a signing of hers but then it was canceled, but she sent me a signed copy of CRESCENDO. That's about as cool as you can get! <3
