"It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?" (Summary from goodreads.com)

The only word that comes to my mind when I think of This Is Not a Test is amazing. I finished this book weeks ago and I still can't stop thinking about it. This is just one of those books where the plot, the characters, and the writing is just all amazing.

It's the zombie apocalypse and six students are hiding in the high school. Sloane is different though because her world already fell apart months ago. Her older sister, who she doesn't know how to survive without, ran away from home and left Sloane with her father. Sloane is such a complex and interesting character. I loved how her story unraveled in pieces throughout this book.

Then there are the other kids in the school; Rhys, Trace, Grace, Harrison, and Cary. It was interesting learning more about each of them and how they interacted with one another.

The plot picks up immediately on the first page and I was easily hooked on this story. I had high expectations when I started this book because people kept telling me it was so good. This book was even better than what I could of ever expected. There were so many twists that I was not expecting. I will say this though, This Is Not a Test is so much more than just a zombie story.

Summer's writing is beautiful and I definitely plan on reading more of her books soon. I love that she doesn't censor anything in this story. It's a raw and chilling story about life and death. I found myself constantly putting the book down for a few minutes trying to process what just happened. This Is Not a Test has easily become one of my new favorite books and I can't recommend it enough!

  2. Agreed completely with your review! This Is Not A Test never let up with its fast pace, but the great thing about it is that 90% of that had to do with so much heightened emotion. And Courtney Summers did that so well. I loved this book too!

  4. I was on the fence about buying a copy of this book just because zombie books really are not my thing but everyone has been saying it is so much more than that. Now I can't wait to read about this emotional tale that just happens to include zombies.

Thanks for the great review, so glad you liked this one. :)
