"Finding your eternal soulmate - easy.Stopping a true-love-hungry evil - not so much…After breaking a centuries-old romantic curse, Emma Connor is (almost) glad to get back to normal problems. Although...it's not easy dealing with the jealous cliques and gossip that rule her exclusive Upper East Side prep, even for a sixteen-year-old newbie witch. Having the most-wanted boy in school as her eternal soul mate sure helps ease the pain-especially since wealthy, rocker-hot Brendan Salinger is very good at staying irresistibly close....But something dark and hungry is using Emma and Brendan's deepest fears to reveal damaging secrets and destroy their trust in each other. And Emma's crash course in über-spells may not be enough to keep them safe…or to stop an inhuman force bent on making their unsuspected power its own." (summary from goodreads.com)

Cara Lynn Shultz's Spellcaster is the sequel to Spellbound and picks up four months later. Emma and Brendan are ready to get back to normal after everything that happened a few months ago. They find themselves still at the center of much gossip. However while Emma is learning more about spells, another force is beginning to close in on them.

I loved Spellcaster even more than Spellbound. I love how the characters developed through this story, especially Emma and Brendan. They were characters that I easily grew even more attached to. Emma has survived a lot in her life but she is strong. She is becoming even stronger though and is now learning to defend herself. She is also learning more about being a witch while working on spells with her best friend Angelique.

I love how the relationship has grown between Emma and Brendan. It is obvious that they will do anything for one another. I like that their relationship may be true love but they still have issues to work out. I am seriously crushing on Brendan even more now though. I was also thrilled to see the return of Emma's friends Angelique and Cisco. They were both characters that I loved in the previous book so I was happy to read more about them.

The plot is paced well and I found it hard to put it down. Spellcaster is suspenseful, funny, and sweet. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going into this book but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked how the first chapter provided a clear and quick summary of what happened in the previous book, Spellbound. This definitely helped refresh my memory. I also enjoyed that a great deal of this book dealt with learning more about the witches and the spells. I love the setting in New York City. I must add that I especially loved the trip Emma takes to the Cloisters museum because that is one of my favorite places in the City. I can't wait to see where Shultz will take Emma and Brendan's story next. I highly recommend Spellcaster, it is an excellent and exciting sequel!

  4. This series looks really interesting, and the fact that she's a WITCH just adds to the novelty of the book :D. And I don't know why, but I just love the font on that cover! Great review :D

  5. I'm really excited to read this one. I loved Brendan in Spellbound and it sounds like I'll love him even more in this one. Cara Lynn Shultz really does a great job with her writing, I'm happy to hear the relationship between Emma and Brendan is still not absolutely perfect. Can't wait to pick this one up. Great review!
