"Once upon a time, Hudson knew exactly what her future looked like. Then a betrayal changed her life, and knocked her dreams to the ground. Now she’s a girl who doesn’t believe in second chances… a girl who stays under the radar by baking cupcakes at her mom’s diner and obsessing over what might have been. So when things start looking up and she has another shot at her dreams, Hudson is equal parts hopeful and terrified. Of course, this is also the moment a cute, sweet guy walks into her life…and starts serving up some seriously mixed signals. She’s got a lot on her plate, and for a girl who’s been burned before, risking it all is easier said than done. It’s time for Hudson to ask herself what she really wants, and how much she’s willing to sacrifice to get it. Because in a place where opportunities are fleeting, she knows this chance may very well be her last…." (Summary from goodreads.com)

Sarah Ockler's Bittersweet is the story of Hudson who once had the opportunity of going far in professional ice skating but then her life completely changed. Now she works in her mother's diner where she bakes cupcakes. However, when Hudson is given another chance at her dream, she must decide if it is still worth it.

I loved Bittersweet and could not put this book down from the first page. The characters are each strongly developed, especially Hudson. Hudson was a character that I immediately connected with. I found that I could relate to her on so many different levels. She works hard to balance all that is going on in her life. She works at her mother's diner, bakes cupcakes, and helps take care of her little brother. Hudson grows a great deal through the story and learns much about herself.

There are so many side characters I fell in love with as well. Bug is Hudson's little brother and he is just so adorable. I love the relationship he shares with his big sister. Then there is Dani who is Hudson's best friend and also works in the diner. Finally there are the hockey team boys. I loved the hockey team and thought they were hilarious. I also completely fell in love with Josh.
I must add I loved the scenes that took place in the diner and found myself laughing out loud at times. I work in a diner myself and I have one too many customers who are like the Cowboy. I also loved all of the different cupcakes that Hudson created and I even baked the lights, camera, cupcakes. I definitely plan on baking a few more of them also. The plot is paced well and made me laugh out at times but, I also felt my heart break at other moments. I highly recommend Bittersweet, it is a captivating story about discovering who you are and what you want.
