"Luis Fuentes has always been sheltered from the gang violence that nearly destroyed his brothers’ lives. But that didn’t stop him from taking risks—whether he’s scaling a mountain in the Rockies or dreaming of a future as an astronaut, Luis can’t stop looking for the next thrill. Nikki Cruz lives her life by three rules—boys lie to get their way, don’t trust a boy who says “I love you,” and never date a boy from the south side of Fairfield. Her parents may be from Mexico, but as a doctor’s daughter, she has more in common with her north-side neighbors than the Latino Blood at her school. Then she meets Luis at Alex’s wedding, and suddenly, she’s tempted to break all her rules. Getting Nikki to take a chance on a southsider is Luis’s biggest challenge, until he finds himself targeted by Chuy Soto, the new head of the Latino Blood. When Chuy reveals a disturbing secret about Luis’s family, the youngest Fuentes finds himself questioning everything he’s ever believed to be true. Will his feelings for Nikki be enough to stop Luis from entering a dark and violent world and permanently living on the edge?" (Summary from

Simone Elkeles Chain Reaction is the final book in The Perfect Chemistry series and is the story of the youngest Fuentes brother, Luis. Luis is not like his brothers, Alex and Carlos, because he mostly stays out of trouble but he does still craves for an adrenaline rush. While at Alex's wedding, Luis meets Nikki who is the doctors daughter. After a previous breakup Nikki is left with a cynical attitude towards all men and Luis likes the challenge of trying to persuade her to give him a chance.

I enjoyed Chain Reaction just as much as I have enjoyed the other books in this series. Elkeles once again creates an excellent romantic story. Luis is different from his older brothers because he is completely determined to become an astronaut and tries to stay away from the gang. Nikki is pessimistic when it comes to boys after having a bad experience with her previous ex-boyfriend. I like that Luis and Nikki's relationship develops at a realistic pace.

Although each book in the series is fairly similar, I liked that Chain Reaction was a little more different than Perfect Chemistry and Rules of Attraction. I was surprised by the last few chapters and the Fuentes family secret. I loved the scenes that included Alex, Brittany, Carlos, and Kiara from the previous books. I recommend reading Chain Reaction and if not already then The Perfect Chemistry series. I am sad that this is the ending to the Fuentes brothers but I am definitely looking forward to what Elkeles will be writing next.
