"Zara collects phobias the way other high school girls collect lipsticks. Little wonder, since life’s been pretty rough so far. Her father left, her stepfather just died, and her mother’s pretty much checked out. Now Zara’s living with her grandmother in sleepy, cold Maine so that she stays “safe.” Zara doesn’t think she’s in danger; she thinks her mother can’t deal. Wrong. Turns out that guy she sees everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn’t a figment of her imagination. He’s a pixie—and not the cute, lovable kind with wings. He’s the kind who has dreadful, uncontrollable needs. And he’s trailing Zara." (summary from carriejonesbooks.com)
Carrie Jones Need is the story of Zara, who recently lost her stepfather and is moving to Maine to live with her grandmother. She believes her mother is sending her away because she can't handle her anymore but, little does Zara know is that her family is protecting her from a dark secret. She soon discovers that the man she has been seeing everywhere is actually stalking her and he is a pixie. Along with her new friends, Zara uncovers the secrets of the pixies and just what it is that they want from her.

Need is a captivating story of a supernatural world with pixies that grabs your attention from the first page. Zara is a tough and selfless protagonist who has been through much in her life and collects phobias as a coping method. The side characters are interesting, and I especially enjoyed the hyper character of Issie as well as the comedy that Gram brought. The plot moved a bit fast and I felt that the character development was rushed, but overall it was a good book. I definitely plan to read more of this series to see where Jones takes Zara's story next.
